Zero Impact – The Best Way to Exercise

This blog post is inspired by the blogging marathon hosted on IndiBlogger for the launch of the #Fantastico Zica from Tata Motors. You can  apply for a test drive of the hatchback Zica today.

Hi guys!

I’m soldiering on in this epic blogging marathon and I continue to wield the “impact” baton, inspired by the #TataZica my friends, so here we go!

As the more astute followers of this particular blog will know, I’m one for exercise. I mean, I live by:

“Treat your body like a temple”.
“Man owns nothing save a brief loan of his own body”.

So yeah, in other words, I’m pretty big on the whole “keeping fit” thing. In my previous posts, I’ve extolled the virtues of Pumping Iron, or, as they called it in the old days, “Lifting” (weights). Hitting the gym , basically (if you happen to be that unfamiliar with the lingo).

However, for any number of reasons, the gym may not be for everyone. For some, it isn’t the thing all the time, for some it isn’t the thing temporarily and for some, it’s just not happening. Ever.

But that in no way means you ignore your health. And you certainly cannot, under any circumstances, think that you are exempt from meticulous care for your health. At least not if you wish to lead a life that is lived to its fullest potential in every possible way. Your health, you see, isn’t simply one facet of living your life fully, as best you can, to the fullest potential and in a rewarding fashion (insert-cliche-here) – it is the basis, the very foundation, the bedrock of anything you wish to do in your life. From literally opening a door to figuratively opening the metaphorical door to success.

For without your health – physical and mental – you’ve got nothing. You’re gonna be able to do nothing, achieve nothing.

And a sound body is a precursor to a sound mind.

So, whether you’re excluded from the gym by your attitude/proclivities, or you’re excluded by physiology (age-related or otherwise) – high blood pressure and the like, or you’re injured and you can’t do your favorite exercise in the gym for a while, well, here’s your answer – swimming. The Zero Impact exercise.

There’s nothing as good! It doesn’t matter if you’ve got a disc herniation or your pregnant or whatever – you can swim! And it’s really the greatest exercise.

Strength training. Check. (yeah, yeah, we know all about your “powerlifting”, but try doing the butterfly stroke for 400 meters before you judge Mr. Dead-lifting Sneer-er)
Cardio. Check.

Oh, and did I mention that:

You’ll feel cool in the summer?
You’ll get a good looking physique without even trying?

Yep.

And, most importantly of all – Zero Impact.

And really, therein lies the greatness of swimming that elevates it from the level of mere sport or exercise to a way of life. There’s virtually no chance of injury (unless you dive headlong into an empty pool of course).

Seriously, think about it. No joint pains. No impact pains. And all the gains.
What more could you wish for?
